Accelerated Technology Announces Upgrade for Networking Software, Nucleus NET 5.2
MOBILE, Ala.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—July 13, 2004—
Accelerated Technology(R), the Embedded Systems Division
of Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT), today announced the
Nucleus(R) NET 5.2 software, a major upgrade of the Nucleus networking
protocol stack. This release of the Nucleus NET software will give
developers a networking stack with advanced features including
hardware checksum offloading, support for Internet Group Multicast
Protocol version 3 (IGMP), dynamic removal of network interfaces and
virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) support.
The new features are in addition to those protocols already
supported by the Nucleus NET software including TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP,
IGMP, ARP, RARP, DNS resolver, DHCP client, BOOTP client, RIP/RIP II
and TFTP client.
Hardware checksum offloading has been provided for the Nucleus NET
5.2 software in order to increase the speed and performance of
networked applications. In addition, the Nucleus NET 5.2 software now
adheres to IGMPv3 support, the protocol governing the management of
multicast groups in a TCP/IP network. This new protocol increases the
Nucleus NET stack's interoperability with the latest network equipment
on the market. Other changes made to the Nucleus NET 5.2 software
include the dynamic removal of network interfaces. This feature paves
the way for networking developers to use hot-swappable network devices
with the Nucleus NET protocol stack such as 802.11 (or Ethernet),
PCMCIA card or CompactFlash cards and 802.11 (or Ethernet) over
Universal Serial Bus (USB). Many new products are adding support for
this type of removable media and the Nucleus NET 5.2 software opens
the door for the Nucleus developers to enhance their products with
these emerging technologies.
The Nucleus NET stack upgrade also offers VLAN support.
Applications such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) that require
quality of service (QoS) support from the network often need VLAN
support with priority tagging. In the office setting, large
corporations use VLAN for their local network to improve overall
network performance. Additionally, customers that create
network-enabled devices, e.g. a printer, to be used in this type of
environment will need VLAN support in order for their device to
function on the local network.
"The networking world is constantly changing to keep up with new
technology and to meet market demands. Because of this, the Nucleus
NET software has also evolved to meet this challenge. The Nucleus NET
5.2 software is the latest installment of our core networking support,
adding new features that meet the demands of today's applications,"
said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division,
Mentor Graphics.
Pricing and Availability
The Nucleus embedded software is sold in source code format and
without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus NET begin at $14,495.
